Unye State Hospital Spiritual Support Unit started its activities.
The unit, supported by the Mufti, aims to provide counseling/guidance, morale, motivation and moral support services to the patients, their relatives and hospital staff in the health facilities within the framework of their own demands, taking into account the special conditions they are in.
Ünye State Hospital Chief Physician Op. Dr. Ahmet Ateş: “In our spiritual support unit, we take care to use a comforting and soothing (relaxing) language, without giving orders or suggestions, by professionally helping patients, relatives and hospital staff who request support, based on their religion and life views, according to their needs. We try to help our patients turn negative thoughts about their illness or problem into positive ones. Provided that they do not cause disruptions in the services of the institution, do not disturb others, and do not interfere in any way with the medical treatment organized and carried out by the personnel, our religious officer friend in our hospital provides the necessary information and support to our patients and their relatives, upon their request, in order to suggest religion and support them spiritually. Thanks to the application, an important deficiency in our hospitals that our patients and their relatives need has been eliminated. We receive many positive feedbacks from our citizens on this issue," he said.
Stating that it is important to help people follow a path by giving importance to their small life stories in spiritual care, Chief Physician Ateş said: “It is important to be a safe partner to people's concerns and secrets when it comes to caring, showing interest, making them feel valued and not alone. But the main thing is; It is to give effective moral support to people in coping with the troubled situation they are in. It is to interpret the events that happened to him in a positive way, to help him enjoy life again and to make the rest of his life meaningful.”
Providing information about the work of the unit, Ünye State Hospital Spiritual Support Specialist Ercan Türkmen said, “Spiritual Support is a religion and belief support based on religious references. Helping people to adapt to the new situation that comes with sudden changes, in situations of pain, distress, sadness, fear, loneliness and hopelessness, crisis situations, to help them improve their coping skills, to provide counseling/guidance to their questions and problems, if any, to accompany them in giving a new meaning to their lives. and to motivate them. In the moral support unit, we hold meetings with patients/patient relatives and hospital staff on various moral support issues. During our meetings, we try to answer individual questions of our citizens on religious matters within a scientific framework. We recite the Qur'an upon request. In addition, the importance of treatment in our religion, the correct understanding of the disease, the importance our religion attaches to protecting our health, the effects of worship on being healthy, worship in case of illness and in the hospital environment, trust, accident, fate, patience, gratitude, testing, etc. We provide information about the issues”.
